ALGIERS- Minister of Environment and Renewable Energies Fatima Zohra Zerouati affirmed during her participation in the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP24) in Katowice,
in Poland, that the agreement of Paris will be as from 2020 the framework governing the States’ policies in terms of economy and development.
The minister said during the 23rd United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) that Paris Agreement is a framework guaranteeing the States’ interests and that we cannot claim reviewing its clauses.
She added that Africa, despite its modest contribution to the issue of greenhouse gas emissions, is the continent which suffers the most from the impacts of the climate change because of its great vulnerability and that Algeria is not in shelter.
On the basis of the principle of the convention’s joint responsibility, Algeria has decided to mobilize all the necessary means likely to ensure the energy transition in this country, the sustainable development of its agriculture and the integrated waste management in green economy, she said.
Considered among the most affected countries by the phenomenon of climate change, Algeria elaborated in September 2015, through its efficient and constructive contribution to the negotiations process, a national strategy and joined early the Paris Agreement in 2016 by committing to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions by 7% by 2030, said the minister.
