Algeria, Switzerland pen cooperation agreement in healthcare field

ALGIERS – A partnership and cooperation agreement on the care of non-communicable diseases was signed on Monday in Algiers by the Ministry of Health, Population and Hospital Reform and a Swiss laboratory.
The signing ceremony was chaired by Minister of Health Abderrahmane Benbouzid, accompanied by Deputy Minister in charge of Hospital Reform, Ismail Mesbah and, Vice-President of the Swiss Confederation, Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Office, Ignazio Cassis, on a visit to Algeria.
Subsequently, Benbouzid told the press that a “joint commission has been set up to ensure a permanent follow-up of the implementation of this agreement and also define the cooperation projects to be achieved by the two countries.”
The health minister added he discussed with the vice-president of the Swiss Confederation about “the ways that would allow stronger and larger opportunities for cooperation in the health sector between the two countries.”
He also said that these non communicable diseases, namely cancer, neurological diseases and hemophilia are among the priorities of the ministry.
The vice-president of the Swiss Confederation said that “the signing of this agreement will kick off cooperation with Algeria which goes beyond drugs production and which affects the proper functioning of healthcare system.”
In addition, Cassis “congratulated Algeria on its good management of the Covid-19 pandemic,” stressing that the two countries had “a successful discussion on the vaccine issue and the strategy of the two countries in this area.”
