ALGIERS- Algeria’s external debt reached USD1.797 billion in June 2018, including the loan of USD1 billion contracted in 2016 from the African Development Bank (BAD),
said the document on the statement of the government’s general policy.
Algeria’s public external debt represents 1.06% of the country’s GDP, said the source.
The internal public debt reached 36% of GDP, said the source which underlined that this ratio is still “very reasonable,” notably because of the loans contracted by the Treasury from the Bank of Algeria under the article 45 bis of the law on money and credit.
“With the exhaustion of its own savings housed at the Revenue Regulation Fund (FRR), the Treasury recorded an increase in the public debt,” added the source.
