ALGIERS-Algeria is almost ready for the internationalization of its products and will declare 2018 the national Year of non-hydrocarbon exports, Trade Minister, Said Djellab announced Monday in Algiers.
“We are ready to develop non-hydrocarbon exports and we will declare 2019 the national Year of non-hydrocarbon exports,” said Djellab at a press conference on the sidelines of the international transport and logistics exhibition (Logistical 2018) held on 26-29 November at the Exhibition Palace of Algiers.
Algeria is able to position itself on foreign markets. “We have the necessary infrastructures to diversify our industry and agriculture, with a view to placing our products on foreign markets,” said Djellab, stressing that his recent visits to foreign countries were an opportunity to prospect markets in order to impose domestic products at the international level.
In addition to the European market, which imports Algerian agricultural and food-processing products, the minister export operators can target other regions in the world, notably Africa, North America, Russia and Asia.
According to Djellab, non-hydrocarbon exports would allow Algeria to achieve sustainable economic growth while reducing its strong dependence on hydrocarbons.
“Making exports successful means sustaining Algeria’s economic development,” said Djellab.
The minister also underscored the key role of logistics in developing exports, arguing that the promotion of exports without logistics is impossible.
Besides, the minister underlined State’s contribution to supporting exporters through the Export Support and Promotion Fund and the agreements recently signed between the Ministry of Transport and various logistics companies, including the Logitrans group.
“We have cut red tape and any operator who wants to ship his goods will only have to submit his request to Logitrans to get his invoice subsidized,” he said.
In the same vein, he announced that products will be exported to Mauritania in the coming days (Mauritania).
