PARIS- The Algerian-French Joint Economic Committee (COMEFA) wrapped up Monday, in Paris, with the signing of a declaration of intent for the creation of a bilateral investment fund between Algeria and France.
The declaration was signed by Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdelkader Messahel and French Minister of Economy and Finance Bruno Lemaire, in the presence of Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean Yves Le Drian, Minister of Industry and Mining Youcef Yousfi and members of the two delegations.
The Algerian-French investment fund, which is an idea formed since the last visit of President Emmanuel Macron to Algeria on 6 December 2017, is meant to fund the investments of the Algerians who want to invest in France and French who want to invest in Algeria.
COMEFA’s works were preceded by a meeting between the two countries’ Foreign ministers, the fourth session of the Algerian-French strategic dialogue on security and counter-terrorism issues, in which the two sides broached major regional and international political issues of common interest, notably the Libyan and Syrian crises, the situation in Mali, Sahel and the Maghreb region as well as some other issues, including migration, counterterrorism and deradicalization.
Shortly before this, the two ministers held private talks. The minister of Industry and Mining also held meeting with French minister of Economy and Finance.
