ALGIERS-Trade Minister Mohamed Benmeradi on Sunday held talks with his Tunisian counterpart Omar Behi on many economic issues of common interest, mainly bilateral trade exchanges, announced the ministry in a communiqué.
The talks took place part of the meeting of the joint ministerial committee. Both officials expressed their willingness to boost investments and bilateral trade exchanges.
Benmeradi recalled the efficiency of Algeria-Tunisia partnership and Tunisia’s investments rate in Algeria. The ministry is ready to pursue consultations to promote investments and strengthen ties between Algerian investors and their Tunisian counterparts, affirmed Benmeradi.
The minister expressed “their willingness to increase the volume of trade exchanges and create mechanisms for new partnerships.” He also stressed the importance of Tunisian investments in many areas.
For his part, Behi hailed “the brotherly and historical relations between Algeria and Tunisia and economic partnerships implemented so far, as well as the increase in economic exchanges worth nearly USD 2 billion per year.”
He also welcomed the “facilities and favourable climate for investment in Algeria thanks to the political willingness shown by authorities and stability in the country,” recalling the signing of the preferential trade agreement between the two countries and the Arab Free Trade Area (AFTA), “which allowed augmenting trade exchanges between Algeria and Tunisia.”
