APS : Thursday, 13 December 2018
ALGIERS – Foreign Minister Abdelkader Messahel will take part, on Friday and Saturday, in Freetown (Sierra Leone), in the ministerial meeting of the Committee of Ten Heads of State
and Government of the African Union in charge of the Reform of the UN Security Council (C -10), said Thursday a Foreign Ministry statement.
This meeting “will review the United Nations ongoing reform process and consider the drafting of the African Union strategy to promote Africa’s legitimate demands to be represented in the Security Council in a fair and equitable manner and to correct the historical injustice done to Africa,” the source added.
The AU’s position is based on the Ezulwini Consensus and the Sirte Declaration, which provide for the granting of two permanent seats to Africa, with the right of veto, as well as two additional non-permanent seats.
