MOSCOW – Russian senator Ziyad Sabsabi welcomed the Algerian approach regarding conflicts and hailed Algeria’s “wise and weighted” position concerning the Syrian conflict which now reaches a crucial stage in the settlement process.
“I wish to express my gratitude to Algeria and the Algerian people for their wise and weighted position with regard to the Syrian issue,” the Aleppo-born senator told APS on the sidelines of a roundtable on Syria, held Thursday in Moscow.
Ziyad Sabsabi also welcomed the Algerian approach regarding the conflicts, based on the principles of dialogue and the political resolution.
Algeria hopes for the return of peace and security in this country, through a “political solution bringing together the Syrians around a Platform of Accord which would enable them re-unite their ranks to counter the terrorist organizations in Syria,” had said Minister of Maghreb Affairs, African Union and Arab League Abdelkader Messahel, during the 4th session of the Arab-Russian Cooperation Forum, held on 1st February in Abu Dhabi.
Ziyad Sabsabi, vice-president of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Council of the Federation of Russia reported an “alarming situation” on the humanitarian plan in Syria, denouncing the “lack of humanitarian support” from certain countries.
After several visits to Syria, the Russian senator said he had seen a “human tragedy where more than 13 million Syrians lived as refugees in their own country.”
According to UN statistics for 2016, cited by Ziyad Sabsabi, 12.6 million Syrians require urgent direct assistance. Among them, 6.5 million children require health support. In addition, more than 10 million people face difficulties to obtain water.
