(English) Mr. Attaf holds talks in Nouakchott with his Mauritanian counterpart

Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ahmed Attaf, held talks on Friday with his Mauritanian counterpart, Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug, as part of his visit to Nouakchott in his capacity as Special Envoy of President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune.

On this occasion, the two parties discussed a number of issues relating to cooperation and partnership relations, which are experiencing a remarkable dynamic, thanks to the extreme attention and close monitoring they receive from the leaders of the two brotherly countries.

The two parties also discussed forthcoming bilateral deadlines and the ways and means of preparing them in the best possible way, with a view to enabling them to add new milestones on the road to consolidating Algerian-Mauritanian relations.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to discuss regional and international issues of common interest, foremost among which is the security and political situation in the Sahel-Sahara region, which is a source of growing concern and shared anxiety for both countries, in addition to the series of subjects on the agenda of the forthcoming African Union (AU) summit.

In addition, the two parties discussed “extensively” developments in the situation in the Gaza Strip, reiterating the steadfastness of Algeria and Mauritania in their unconditional support for the Palestinian cause.
