Dang praised “the role that Algeria continues to play to deepen the concept of African unity and improve the performance of continental institutions, including the Pan-African Parliament, set under Malabo protocol to play greater role in promoting unity and cooperation among the continent countries,” the statement added.
The meeting allowed the “examination of the future action plan of the Parliament, drawing on the Algerian experience,” the same source added.
In this regard, Bensalah outlined “the various steps taken by the country since the election of Abdelaziz Bouteflika in 1999.” These “efforts allowed the return of peace and security until the recent constitutional amendment which gave the two Houses of Parliament, more prerogatives to ensure the balance of power.”
Moreover, the two parties discussed “the situation in the region, notably the question of decolonization in Africa, particularly in Western Sahara within the framework of international legality,” calling “to intensify efforts at the international parliamentary forums to defend the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination,” the statement concluded.
