ALGIERS- The meeting of the Algerian-Tunisian Monitoring Committee, held on 4 and 5 March in Algiers, culminated in major outcomes encompassing various cooperation areas, said Sunday in Algiers Tunisian Foreign Minister Khemaies Jhinaoui.
In a statement to the press following his discussions with Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ramtane Lamamra, Jhinaoui said that the two sides examined cooperation between the two countries and means to boost it in the best interests of both countries.
The meeting focused on all cooperation areas, said the Tunisian minister, who also announced the signing of a security cooperation agreement on 9 March.
The agreement would be “a legal framework for the intense cooperation between the two countries in the field,” he added.
“There are many other cooperation areas between our two countries, like tourism, energy and transport,” he said.
The meeting was also an “opportunity to discuss other issues of common interest, including the Arab Maghreb Union (AMU) and means to strengthen cooperation within that framework,” said Jhinaoui.
As regards the situation in Libya, the Tunisian Foreign minister reiterated “the need for Tunisia, Algeria and Egypt to combine their efforts to help the Libyan brothers to resolve their differences and find a consensual political solution.”
