The Algerian and the Japanese ministries of Foreign Affairs held Thursday, in Algiers, their fifth political consultations meeting.
The bilateral meeting, part of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed in 2010, was co-chaired by the director general of the Asia-Oceania Department at the ministry of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Naceur Boucherit, and the director general of the Middle East and Africa Department at the Japanese ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nagaoka Kansuke.
The meeting was an opportunity for the two sides to discuss bilateral cooperation and consider ways and means to extend it to new fields.
The two sides stressed the quality of the historical relations between Algeria and Japan, expressing a desire to further enhance them.
They also seized the opportunity to exchange views on regional and international political issues of common interest.
The UN reform, Western Sahara and the Palestine issues as well as the situation in Libya and the Sahel were also tackled at the meeting.
