ALGIERS-“Algeria is the target of a ferocious colonial campaign for economic and political blackmail,” affirmed on Wednesday Chairman of the Consultative Council of the Arab Maghreb Union (AMU) Said Mokaddem
in reaction to the resolution of the European Parliament (EP) on the situation of human rights in Algeria.
The EP resolution “harms the sovereignty of an independent State and blatantly violates international relations based on respect of the sovereignty of states and non-interference in their internal affairs,” Said Mokaddem told APS.
“This sinister resolution includes severe judgments from a Parliament that is not entitled to initiate legislation. How can it dare to take on a sovereign State in a masterly and tutorship tone?” said the AMU official.
“Algeria rejects the colonial authoritarian logic of the European Parliament and refuses diktats, lessons and intimidation by seizing all international human rights organizations,” recalled the AMU official.
In this regard, he stated that the European Parliament “seeks to get further denunciations and to instrumentalize the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) that is expected to meet next March in Geneva.”
According to Mokaddem, “the 3rd resolution of the European Parliament includes erroneous allegations on the situation of human rights in Algeria because the new constitutional amendments meet the claims of associations and activists of the Hirak (popular movement), on which the EP based its pleadings against Algeria.”
“This resolution has ignored the positive sides of the constitutional amendments hailed by the Algerian people who seek to engage in a new step of the history of Algeria,” affirmed Mokkadem.
