Annual inflation rate hits 5.2% in June 2016

ALGIERS- Algeria’s annual inflation rate stood at 5.2% in June 2016, the National Office of Statistics (ONS) told APS on Sunday.
The annual inflation rate in June 2016 represents the evolution of the consumer price index from July 2015 to June 2016, compared to July 2014 to June 2015.
The consumer price index showed an annual increase of nearly 8% in June 2016 compared to June 2015, said the ONS.
The consumer price index also went up by 1.4% in June 2016 compared to May 2016, against 0.5% in June 2015 compare to May 2015, added the ONS.
The monthly increase is mainly due to 2.6% rise in food prices, driven by 5.21% increase in fresh products and 0.07% rise in manufactured food products.
In June 2016, the prices of almost all fresh products went up, except for fresh fish which declined by 13.15% and potatoes (-2%), compared to May 2016.
The most significant rise was recorded in fresh vegetables (+15.8%), fresh fruits (+13.9%), chicken (+9.5%), mutton (+0.97%), beef (+0.86%) and eggs (+1.9%), said the ONS.
The prices of manufactured goods rose slightly by 0.4% over the same period of reference, while those of services remained almost unchanged (+0.08%).
As regards the annual fluctuation, the prices of almost all products increased between June 2015 and June 2016, except for potatoes, which went down by (-26.02%), and poultry and eggs (-8.75%), according to figures provided by the ONS.
The most significant increase was recorded mainly in fruits (+47.6%), fresh fish (+17.05%), vegetables (+16.6%) and soft drinks (+8.5%).
