Council of Ministers adopts several hydrocarbon exploration contracts
APS : Thursday, 27 December 2018
ALGIERS- Council of Ministers adopted Thursday many presidential decrees validating contracts and amendments to contracts relating to hydrocarbon exploration and exploitation.
The deals are about fields under national hydrocarbon group Sonatrach’s exploration or exploitation, in partnership with French Total, Italian ENI, Norwegian Equinor (former Statoil) and Indonesian Pertamina.
Earlier this year (2018), Sontarach had signed with French group Total a package of agreements, relating mainly to the exploration of potential offshore oil in the basin’s western side (Western Area of Interest) over 9,336 km2.
In addition, Sonatrach and Total have signed two agreements in the upstream petroleum sector.
Concerning the partnership between Sonatrach and ENI, the two groups have signed amendments to agreements on the exploration of 49% of Sonatrach’s interests transferred to Italian group ENI.
The concerned areas are three research perimeters, namely Zemlet Elarbi, SIF Fatima and Orhoud II.
With Norwegian group Equinor, Sonatrach had signed, in December 2017, an amendment to a gas contract for more than 500 million dollars, to increase the reserves of the perimeter of In Amenas in partnership with British Petrolium (BP).
Indonesian Pertamina is operating in Algeria in partnership with Sonatrach since 2014.
Pertamina has been involved in many oil operations, especially in the fields of Menzel Ledjmet North (MLN), El Merk (Illizi) and Ourhoud (Ouargla)
In addition, an engineering and construction contract was signed in June 2018 between the Association Sonatrach-Pertamina Algerie-Talisman and the Italian company Bonatti to increase gas reinjection capacities in the oil field of Menzel Ledjmet.
