Sonatrach-Eni: agreements for exploration, production of hydrocarbons signed

ALGIERS – Sonatrach Group and Italy’s ENI signed, Thursday in Milan (Italy), several agreements in the fields of exploration and production of hydrocarbons, said a statement from Sonatrach.
These agreements were signed by CEO of the Sonatrach Group, Toufik Hakkar, and Managing Director of Eni, Claudio Descalzi.
During this meeting, the two parties discussed the state of progress of joint projects, as well as ways and means of consolidating their “historic partnership,” said the same source.
The two officials also signed “important deals which constitute a significant step forward in strengthening their partnership relationship,” the statement added.
The first agreement signed is part of the process of concluding a new hydrocarbon contract under the aegis of the new hydrocarbons law 19-13.
This agreement aims to achieve an “ambitious” programme for the revival of exploration and development activities in Berkine Basin and provides for the construction of a gas and crude oil development hub in harmony with the existing facilities within the 405b perimeter.
The second agreement signed consists of a Memorandum of Understanding which will cover bio-refining, the production of hydrogen and renewable energy.
With this agreement, cooperation between Sonatrach and ENI will become “multidisciplinary” and would help to” intensify “the numerous efforts to reduce carbon emissions allowing to fully engaging in the energy transition.
The managers of Sonatrach and Eni also agreed on the modalities of collaboration in the field of training and expertise, through the cooperation between Eni Corporate University and the Algerian Institute of Petroleum, for the achievement of training programmes in upstream oil fields and new energy transition-related technologies.
