ALGIERS- The minister of National Planning, Tourism and Craft Industry Abdelwahab Nouri affirmed, Wednesday, the need to strengthen cooperation between Algeria and the World Tourism Organization (WTO) to benefit from “its pioneering experience” in terms of qualification and training.
In a statement to the press at the end of his visit made to the Ain Benian Higher Institute for Hospitality and Catering Management (ESHRA), in the west of Algiers, in company of the Secretary General of the WTO Taleb Rifai, the minister called for “the need to strengthen cooperation with the WTO in order to benefit from its experience and programmes in terms of training and qualification.”
The minister also highlighted “the need to support this school, the first of its kind in Africa through training programmes in order to promote the sector of tourism.”
Furthermore, the minister recalled “the public authorities’ determination to make tourism a sector able to contribute to sustainable economic development.”
In addition, the minister dubbed the ESHRA’s current position “pioneer” in terms of hotel training.
The school is supported by “educational programmes of the Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne in Switzerland, in order to obtain the global certification in tourism training.”
For his part, Rifai expressed the wish to see the ESHRA “become a centre of academic outreach on the African and Mediterranean levels,” announcing that an agreement was concluded with the Algerian party concerning the support of the school through training programmes elaborated by the WTO for the benefit of students and thus, as part of the training development programme supervised by the WTO for 130 schools worldwide.
