ALGIERS- The Secretary General of Malaysia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dato Seri Ramlan Ibrahim, expressed Sunday in Algiers his country’s willingness to develop bilateral relations with Algeria,
which he dubbed a “strategic partner.”
In a statement to the press following the second session of Algerian-Malaysian Political Consultation, he co-chaired with Foreign Ministry’s Secretary General Noureddine Ayadi, Ramlan Ibrahim said that the meeting was an opportunity to discuss cooperation and examine means to strengthen it and expand it to other areas.
The Malaysian official underlined the need to “push forward the Malaysian strategy in Africa, through Algeria, which is a friendly country and a strategic partner.”
The session was an opportunity for the two sides to assess relations between Algeria and Malaysia and exchange views on regional and international issues of common interest, said the Foreign Ministry.
“The two sides hailed the excellent political relations between the two countries and explored means to enhance economic and trade cooperation up to a level commensurate with the ambitions of the Algerian and Malaysian Heads of state,” added the source.
The two officials also “discussed topical issues, including the fight against terrorism and the deradicalization process and other issues of common interest,” said the source.
