ALGIERS-Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Abdelhadi Lahouij of Libya’s transition Government on Sunday emphasized Algeria’s ability to play a role in the settlement of the Libyan crisis and the need to collect
weapons and to fairly distribute wealth in order to move towards a dialogue leading to the construction of a “democratic, united and stably Libya.”
“We are convinced that Algeria is able to play a role in dialogue to settle the crisis in Libya since 2011,” stated Lahouij at a conference on “The crisis in Libya and its impact on neighbouring countries” held at the headquarters of El Moustakbal Front party, in the presence of the party’s leader Abdelaziz Belaid and executives, as well as the Secretary General of the Consultative Council of the Arab Maghreb Union (AMU) Saïd Mokaddem.
“We hail Algeria’s role and we want Tunisia and Algeria to intervene as they are neighbouring countries. Anarchy will lead to the proliferation of weapons in Libya’s neighbouring countries.”
Lahouij expressed the hope that the Algerian approach will succeed.
“We do not want the scenarios of the Skhirat, Paris or Abu Dhabi agreements to happen again because they failed,” affirmed the Libya official.
Leader of the Front El Moustakbal party Abdelaziz Belaid stated that “Libya is an important part of Algeria’s strategic depth, and the same goes for Algeria in relation to Libya.”
“The situation prevailing in Libya must be resolved under a sincere dialogue between the Libyan parties and without foreign interference,” said Belaid.
