(English) Mr Attaf hold talks with Slovenia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister in Ljubljana

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ahmed Attaf, and the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of Slovenia, Tanja Fajon, signed on Friday a joint declaration in Ljubljana through which they reaffirmed the common commitment of both countries to continue strengthening bilateral relations and explore cooperation opportunities on international issues.

As part of his working visit to the Republic of Slovenia, tasked by the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Attaf and Fajon emphasized the importance of continuing to develop and deepen their bilateral relations in multiple sectors, namely, amongst others, economy, energy, artificial intelligence, digitization, migration.

For the future, the ministers committed to exploring new avenues of cooperation that will benefit both countries. In this regard, Algeria and Slovenia welcomed the opening of embassies in their respective capitals.

As for the economic cooperation, both ministers consider that it is an important element in our bilateral relations, and it is for this purpose that they have also committed to strengthening economic ties between the two countries.

They look forward to the implementation of the economic cooperation agreement, which has been in effect since March 2024.

The ministers welcomed the enhanced cooperation in the energy sector and the signing of the annex to the 2022 agreement on natural gas supply between Sonatrach and Geoplin.

They also commended the progress made in bilateral cooperation in migration and security, they committed to further develop these areas.

As for multilateral cooperation, Attaf and Fajon reaffirmed their joint commitment to collaborating in multilateral fora and exploring avenues of cooperation on international issues.

As non-permanent members in the UN Security Council, the two countries acknowledge the importance of joint efforts so as to maintain peace and security.

Throughout our terms, we will maintain close cooperation on regional and international issues of common interest, the two parties emphasized.

The two ministers commended the coordination between their countries’ delegations at the Security Council, particularly on the Palestinian issue.

In this context, they urgently called for an immediate and lasting ceasefire in Gaza, the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip and safe and unhindered humanitarian access to this territory, in accordance with the Security Council’s resolutions.

They also emphasized the two-State solution as a fair, lasting, and final resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

As for the Western Saharan issue, the two ministers emphasized their countries’ longstanding support for the UN-led process, including the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General and the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO), with the aim of achieving a just, lasting and mutually acceptable political solution based on compromise, which will ensure the self-determination of the people of Western Sahara, in line with all General Assembly and Security Council resolutions on the Western Saharan issue and the principles and purposes of the United Nations Charter.

The two countries agreed that the issue should be resolved through peaceful and diplomatic means in accordance with international law.

As for the crisis in Ukraine, the two sides highlighted The need for a just and lasting peace in line with the principles of the United Nations Charter and the international law.
