Algerian-Italian relations at centre of Bensalah-Corsini discussions

ALGIERS- Algerian-Italian relations were at the centre of the discussions held Sunday between Speaker of the Council of the Nation (Upper of House of the Parliament)Abdelkader Bensalah and Vice Chair of Italian Senate’s Foreign Affairs Committee,
Paolo Corsini and the delegation accompanying him.
The discussions, attended by Italian Ambassador to Algeria Pasquale Ferrera, focused on bilateral relations, which have been marked by the convergence of views and positions on issues of common interest, said the Upper House in a communiqué.
In this regard, Bensalah hailed the position of the Italian government, which supported the Algerian Government during the black decade, expressing Algeria’s readiness to diversify and broaden its cooperation with Italy in all areas.
As regards inter-parliamentary relations, the two sides expressed willingness to work for the development of political and economic relations, by boosting cooperation in training, exchange of visits and coordination of positions in international parliamentary fora.
For his part, Senator Paolo Corsini hailed the reforms undertaken in Algeria following the latest revision of the Constitution, particularly the strengthening of the democratic process and human rights.
