PARIS- Algeria is an “important” partner and our relationships are “at their best,” said Thursday Malian president
Ibrahim Boubacar Keita.
“Algeria is an important partner. I have no pressure from it and our relationships are at their best,” the Malian president said in an interview with the newspaper Le Monde, stressing that the Malian government has requested from it (Algeria) asked to play a role in the inter-Malian negotiations.
“We have decided to give this role to Algeria, which it still plays in the inter-Malian negotiations. Algiers chairs the monitoring committee of the Agreement and assists us in the military training matter. And with France, have three party talks,” he said.
Mali, which has 1,360 km of borders in common with Algeria, had supported the Algerian Revolution for independence.
Regarding the implementation of the Algiers Agreement, signed in 2015 between the Malian government and the politico-military groups in the north of Mali, President Boubacar Keïta said that his government has done “its part of the work”, adding that “it took almost eight months for the Malian parties to engage in talks.”
