ALGIERS- Foreign Minister Abdelkader Messahel held discussions Saturday in Bamako, Mali, with his Malian counterpart, Abdoulaye Diop, on the sidelines of the regional conference on security in the Sahel and West Africa,
taking place in the Malian capital, the ministry said in a statement.
The discussions “focused on bilateral relations and the appropriate methods to boost and diversify them,” the statement said, adding that the two ministers emphasized “the importance of using the bilateral mechanisms between the two countries to explore opportunities.”
The two sides “also tackled the implementation of the Agreement on Peace and Reconciliation in Mali and the hindrances it encounters.”
The two ministers rose “the main topic of the Conference of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) held in the Malian capital, namely security in the Sahel and West Africa, especially in the light of the challenges facing the region, such as terrorism and organised crime,” the statement said.
“The migration issue was also on the agenda and the relevant discussions made it possible for the two ministers to develop a shared vision, while stressing the need to continue consultations between the two countries, mainly on the control of illegal immigration,” the statement concluded.
