ALGIERS- Algeria and Congo intend to “revive” the longstanding relation between the two countries and “boost” bilateral cooperation said Sunday, the Congolese minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Congolese Nationals Abroad Jean-Claude Gakosso.
“We have received instructions from our two Heads of State to revive this longstanding and precious relation between Algiers and Brazzaville. We will thus give impetus to our cooperation,” said Gakosso at the end of his meeting with the minister of State, minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ramtane Lamamra. This meeting was then extended to members of both countries’ delegations.
Gakosso, who announced the visit of the Congolese president Denis Sassou-Nguesso to Algeria, said that by working “hand in hand,” the two countries “can go further in their bilateral cooperation.”
Highlighting the consequences that Algeria and Congo, two oil-producing countries, suffer due to the fall in Brent prices on the global market, Gakosso reported on the great potential that the two countries can use to enrich and diversify their cooperation in several fields and areas of activity.
In addition to the bilateral cooperation, the Algerian and Congolese ministers of Foreign Affairs broached regional issues, particularly the situation in Libya and in this regard, Gakosso recalled the holding last January in Brazzaville, with Algeria’s support, of the Summit of the High Level Committee on Libya.
In this regard, the Congolese minister hailed Algeria’s efforts to bring the points of views of Libyan parties closer for a solution to the crisis in the country, and its role for the development of the African continent.
