Algeria-France counterterrorism cooperation “continuous,” says Darmanin

ALGIERS-Counterterrorism cooperation between Algeria and France “is continuous” and France’s President Emmanuel Macron “is strongly” committed to bilateral ties, said Sunday French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin. “The president of the French Republic is very committed to the relation between Algeria and France, and between our two peoples. I have come to reaffirm to my Algerian counterpart the perfect collaboration of France on all the issues in which our ministries are involved,” Darmanin told the press ahead of his talks with Minister of Interior, Local Authorities and National Planning Kamel Beldjoud.
The French minister underlined continuous cooperation with Algeria, notably in terms of security, counterterrorism.
We discussed counterterrorism, the fight against illegal emigration and security cooperation, he said.
“We also focused on Algeria’s role in the Mediterranean region, notably the issue of Libya, the issue of illegal emigration that affects Algeria and which we must deal with, because we have movements of population throughout this space, which we share,” said Darmanin.
Speaking on this occasion, Beldjoud said that he discussed with his counterpart “the distinguished” bilateral relations and the ways to improve them.
We also discussed illegal emigration, cooperation with the Civil Protection, vocational training and relations between the two ministries, he continued.
“Overall, our visions were convergent on all the topics we had discussed. We will work to further strengthen our relationship,” said Beldjoud.
