DEAD SEA (JORDAN)- Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Wednesday has hailed Algeria’s continuous contributions to Al Quds and Al Aqsa funds and to the budget of the Palestinian Authority.
In his address at the 28th Arab Summit in Jordan’s Dead Sea, Mahmoud Abbas expressed gratitude to Algeria, “which paid, as usual, without any delay, the first instalment of its contributions to the 2017 budget of the Palestinian Authority, in accordance with the decisions of Nouakchott Summit.”
Last Thursday, Algeria handed a cheque for US$26.4 million to the Secretariat General of the Arab League, as part of its first instalment to support the Palestinian Authority budget for 2017.
Algeria, under the leadership of President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika, reiterated its unfailing and continuous support to the struggle of Palestinian people, who seek to achieve their legitimate aspirations to establish an independent State, with Al Quds as its capital.
The Arab League has stated, on several occasions, that Algeria is among rare Arab countries to fulfil their pledges in support to the Palestinian people, since the adoption of Arab League’s decision 224 (March 2002), calling on member states to contribute by US$330 million every six months as from 1 April 2002.
Algeria’s annual financial contribution was set to be US$52.8 million.
