President of Constitutional Council Mourad Medelci passes away

ALGIERS – President of the Constitutional Council Mourad Medelci passed away Monday morning in Algiers, at the age of 76, due to illness, his relatives said.
Born April 30, 1943 in Tlemcen, the deceased held several high offices at State institutions. He served as president of the Constitutional Council since 2013.
Graduated from Economics faculty of the University of Algiers (1966), the deceased had run several public groups, before being appointed director general of the National Company of Tobacco and Matchmaking (SNTA) in 1980, then Secretary General of the Ministry of Commerce until 1988.
In the same year, he was named Minister of Commerce, a position he left in 1989.
He then served as Deputy Minister for the Budget (1991-1992) before returning to Commerce Minister position (1999-2001), then Minister of Finance (2001-2002). Subsequently, he joined the presidency of the Republic as an adviser (2002-2005).
The deceased held the position of Minister of Finance again between 2005 and 2007 and Foreign Minister from 2007 to 2013.
Late Medelci ended his career as President of the Constitutional Council from 2013 to 2019.
