APS : Monday, 02 July 2018
NOUAKCHOTT – Foreign Minister Abdelkader Messahel on Sunday in Nouakchott insisted on “the absolute need” for the Africans to organize themselves in the service of the continent’s development.
Speaking to the press on the occasion of 31st Summit of the AU Heads of State and Government, Messahel said that the Africans “absolutely need to better organize themselves in a movement of partnership so to resolutely work in the service of the continent’s development.”
The African leaders examined during behind the scene sessions “important questions,” namely President Paul Kagame’s report on the African Union reform.
The reform is likely to allow the African Union to become a more effective medium in times of major challenges related to the continent’s economic integration by 2063.
With regard to the Free Trade Zone, the Algerian top diplomat said that it is evident to move to another stage, namely the ratification of the Free Trade Zone deal, in accordance with the laws of each country, in a view to have a “dynamic” Free Trade Zone.
Concerning the future talks between the European Union (EU) and the ” African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States, Messahel said they are planned to start next August, with a view to the revision of the agreement between the two parties.
“We are appropriating all the processes to speak with one voice. This is why we absolutely need to organize ourselves in a movement of partnership,” he suggested.
Broaching Western Sahara issue, Messahel mentioned the setting up of a mechanism of interaction between the Sahrawi republic and Morocco, and between the African Union and the UN on the basis of the UN resolutions.
