AMMAN- The president of the National Human Rights Council, Fafa Benzerrouki has underlined, Sunday in Amman, Algerian State’s effort in the promotion of human rights,
adding that these rights have been enshrined in the 2016 Constitution.
In a statement to APS on the sidelines of the international conference on Israeli occupation and the situation of human rights in the occupied Palestinian territories, Benzerrouki recalled Algeria’s efforts to further establish human rights principle in the daily life of citizens.
In this regard, she said that these rights have been enshrined in the 2016 Constitution and in all related laws that have been modified and complemented.
“In Algeria, the human rights institution has been constitutionalized, which would allow the promotion of human rights and strengthen the interest given to related issues, as well as to individual and collective freedoms,” she added.
“The constitutionalization of the National Human Rights Council, following the revision of the Constitution in 2016, would allow Algeria to recover its ranking in terms of compliance with Paris Principles, the main reference of the rules governing the functioning of the national human rights institutions,” said Benzerrouki, who also chairs the Arab Network of National Human Rights Institutions.
