5+5 Dialogue: 14th Western Mediterranean FM conference opens in Algiers

ALGIERS- The 14th conference of the Foreign Ministers of Dialogue 5+5 opened Sunday in Algiers under the theme “Western Mediterranean: Promoting overall,
shared and sustainable socio-economic development to meet the region’s common challenges.”
The meeting, co-chaired by Foreign Minister Abdelkader Messahel and his French counterpart, Jean-Yves Le Drian, has brought together the Foreign ministers of the countries of the 5+5 Western Mediterranean Dialogue Group.
The conference will also be attended by the secretary general of the Arab Maghreb Union, the secretary general of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) and the European Commission for the European Neighbourhood Policy and Extension Negotiations, partners in the dialogue.
Algeria, which hosts for the second time the FM meeting of the 5+5 Dialogue group, after that of Oran 2005,” is expected to advocate, as part of its Mediterranean policy, for the creation of a Euro-Mediterranean space for peace, stability and shared prosperity.”
The meeting will be “an opportunity to exchange views on regional issues, mainly those relating to security, counterterrorism, deradicalization and migration,” and will wrap up with a 5+5 ministerial declaration.
*The 5+5 Dialogue is made up of the five Arab Maghreb Union (AMU) countries, namely Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Libya and Mauritania, for the Mediterranean southern shore, Italy, France, Spain, Portugal and Malta, for the northern shore.
