APS :Monday, 03 July 2017
ADDIS ABABA – Algeria has been awarded, for the second consecutive year, by the African Union’s Heads of State and Government during the 29th AU Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia,
for its efforts in the promotion of women’s rights, empowerment and wellbeing.
Prime Minister Abdelmadjid Tebboune, who is representing President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika at the Summit, expressed “sincere thanks” to the AU leaders for this distinction.
Algeria was granted this distinction for the first time at the 28th AU Summit in Kigali, Rwanda, in July 2016.
“The award is recognition for Algeria’s continuous efforts, under the clear-sighted leadership of President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, in the promotion of women’s wellbeing and their role in political, economic and social sectors,” said Tebboune.
The Premier added that the new distinction “encourages Algeria to step up its efforts, especially within the framework of the Government’s 2015-2019 programme.”
This recognition is also an opportunity to underline “Algeria’s readiness to share its experience with other African countries and o show its willingness to contribute to our continent’s collective effort to achieve its aspirations for development, peace and security, outlined in the Agenda 2063,” he concluded.
