The Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ahmed Attaf, tasked by the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, held talks with his American counterpart, Antony Blinken on bilateral ties and raised regional and international issues of common interest.
On this occasion, the two FMs highly praised the strength of the historical relations of friendship and cooperation linking Algeria and the United States of America, welcoming the pace of bilateral political consultations and the expansion of economic relations into new areas, as well as the promising prospects for further achievements based on the values of friendship, trust and understanding.
Attaf and Blinken reaffirmed the strong political will of the leaders of both countries to strengthen the Algeria-US partnership and raise it to the highest levels.
In addition, the two FMs exchanged views on regional developments, particularly the situation in Niger, Mali and Libya, underlining “the convergence of the positions of the two countries, as well as their moves to give priority to peaceful solutions to these crises, in order to spare the region, the risks of the military option.
They also discussed developments in the Palestinian question in view of the continuing deadlock in the political process, as well as the latest developments in the Sahrawi issue, reaffirming their support for the efforts of the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General, Staffan de Mistura, to enable the two parties to the conflict to adhere, without preconditions and in good faith, to the political process led by the United Nations.
The two FMs welcomed the great convergence of the two countries’ positions on the issues raised at bilateral and multilateral levels, expressing their will to pursue efforts to explore the promising prospects of the Algeria-US partnership and intensify relations of consultation and coordination, particularly during Algeria’s next term as a non-permanent member of the Security Council.
