Measures to promote economic diplomacy

APS : Thursday, 25 February 2021

ALGIERS- Foreign Minister Sabri Boukadoum announced Thursday in Algiers a series of measures intended to provide concrete contribution to promoting the economic diplomacy,
including the establishment of an interactive network of economic and commercial chargés d’affaires at our diplomatic and consular missions around the world.

“These measures, likely to strengthen economic diplomacy, come in the implementation of the recommendations of the national conference on the economic recovery plan, chaired last August by President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune,” said Boukadoum.

During the conference, the Head of the State had called for “building a diversified national economy capable of consolidating our food security and immunize our nation against excessive dependence on the hydrocarbons.”
Such an objective is achievable through a “tailored diplomatic system which would tangibly contribute to the execution of the economic revival plan,” he said, announcing the “implementation of the proposals of the working group set up in October 2020.”

These proposals relate to “the creation of an interactive network for the economic and commercial chargés d’affaires at our diplomatic and consular missions throughout the world, the opening of an Information Bureau at the Foreign Ministry and the strengthening of the Directorate of Promotion and Support of Economic Exchanges, as a central structure of economic diplomacy.”

In addition, the minister cited the creation of an economic diplomacy portal and the launch of a training programme on economic diplomacy.
