APS : THURSDAY 07 FEBRUARY 2019
ADDIS ABABA- The 34th ordinary session of the African Union Executive Council kicked off Thursday, in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), in the presence of Foreign Minister Abdelkader Messahel.
Messahel is leading the Algerian delegation to this two-day session, preliminary to the 32nd ordinary session of AU’s heads of State and government Conference, scheduled on 10-11 February.
This meeting will allow member States’ Foreign ministers to examine thematic reports on strategic issues on the agenda of the continental organization.
They will notably examine the institutional reform and AU’s financing, the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) as well as the reports on the activities of AU’s bodies, sub-committees of the Executive Council and ad hoc committees.
The Executive Council will also examine the conceptual note on the theme of the year 2019: “Refugees, repatriated and displaced persons: Towards lasting solutions to forced movements in Africa,” as a prelude to its launch by AU Summit.
It will also renew the constituents of some bodies and committees of the African Union (AU), namely the Peace and Security Council, the expert committee on Children’s rights and well-being, the committee on international law and the Union’s consultative council on corruption.
