Algeria to host UNESCO Center for African heritage protection, announces Mihoubi

ALGIERS-Algeria has been elected to host the headquarters of the Centre of the United Nations Education, Science and Culture Organization (UNESCO) for the protection of the African heritage,

According to Mihoubi, “Algeria pursues its intense efforts to list any Algerian or common heritage including new listing requests submitted to the UNESCO, like +Keyal El-Ma+ (water gauge that distributes the water from foggaras to the beneficiaries ), Rai music, distillation of rose water and traditional jewellery.”
“Listing requests on the Maghreb heritage, like couscous, will also be formulated with the concerned countries, in addition to other Arab issues,” said Mihoubi, who announced a meeting “next week” in Khartoum (Sudan) to discuss palms as an Arab common heritage as part of the meetings of the Arab League Educational Cultural and Scientific Organization.”
