ALGIERS- Algeria and Spain “have no problem” with the delimitation of their maritime boundaries, Spanish minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, Arancha Gonzalez Laya, said Wednesday in Algiers.
“I want to be clear about the maritime boundaries over which Algeria and Spain agree one hundred percent. We have no problem with the delimitation of our maritime boundaries,” she said at a news conference jointly held with Foreign Minister Sabri Boukadoum.
In response to a journalist’s question about an “alleged appropriation by Algeria of a Spanish island,” Arancha Gonzalez Laya pointed out that the two countries “have the right to delimit their maritime boundaries, according to the rules of the United Nations,” the Spanish official said.
The two countries “have agreed on negotiation in case of overlapping of the Algerian and Spanish maritime area,” she said.
“We are in agreement that there is no room for unilateralism.”
