ALGIERS- Algeria “strongly” condemned the massacre perpetrated by armed groups in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), with an “appalling death toll,” hence “the urgent need to ensure
the protection of civilians in the conflict zones,” the ministry of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad said Tuesday in a statement.
“Algeria strongly condemns the terrible massacre that has just been committed by armed groups in the region of Kishishe, in North Kivu, the Democratic Republic of Congo, whose death toll emphasizes the need for the protection of civilians in the conflict zones,” the statement said.
“In these difficult circumstances, Algeria extends its sincere condolences to the families and relatives of the victims, wishing speedy recovery for the injured and expressing solidarity with the Congolese people and government.”
“Algeria, stressing the need to respect the international humanitarian law in all circumstances, calls on the different parties to the conflict for appeasement and restraint and to continue dialogue to find a peaceful solution to the crisis in the eastern part of the DR Congo,” the statement concluded.
