ALGIERS- The documentary “The red gold” co-directed by French Mirabelle Fréville and Philippe Baron received Monday in Algiers the Documentary Grand Prize of the 6th film Days of Algiers (Jca) while the short film “Yesterday, I will comeback “by Badra Hafiane also received the Grand Prize of Short Film Category.
This 52 minute French documentary focus on the importance of blood transfusions introduced by the allies during the World War II and which had helped save thousands of lives. The film also evokes the earliest transfusions practiced in Algeria during the same period.
For its part, “Yesterday, I’ll come back,” the first short film of APS journalist Badra Hafiane is dedicated to the difficult return to the scenes of tragedies in today’s Algeria. It recounts the heavy trauma caused by the violent loss of a loved one during the years of terrorism.
In the documentary category, the jury of the 6th JCA also awarded two special mentions to Algerian directors Hamid Benamra for “Reveries of the solitary actor”, an atypical film portrait of t actor Addar Mohamed and Mohamed Zaoui for “Akher Kalam” (last words) dedicated to the last months of the life of writer Tahar Ouettar, died in 2010.
The jury headed by Algerian filmmaker and actor Mostefa Djadjam also awarded two special mentions in the short film category to journalist Fella Bouredji for “Sweet revolt”, giving the floor to a student from the School of Fine Arts during the protest movement “InfidjArt” as well as to Laiche Kamel for his film “Papillon”.
During the closing ceremony of the 6th JCA, the Prize of the Arab Union of Film Associations went to the documentary “Zakaria” a Tunisian-French co-production directed by Leyla Bouzid.
