US State Department: John Desrocher welcomes Algeria's efforts in stabilizing region

WASHINGTON- US Deputy Assistant Secretary for Egypt and Maghreb Affairs, John Desrocher, on Friday in Washington, welcomed Algeria’s efforts in stabilizing the region, emphasizing its “quality contribution” to the resolution of the Libyan crisis.
Desrocher was speaking during a meeting with an Algerian parliamentary delegation on visit to Washington, composed of Vice-president of the People’s National Assembly (Lower House), Djamel Bouras, member of the Council of the Nation (Upper House), Hafida Benchehida, Spokesman of the National Democratic Rally party RND, Seddik Chiheb, and Head of the Algerian-US Parliamentary Group Abdelkrim Meheni.
The meeting was attended by Algerian ambassador to Washington, Madjid Bouguerra.
The U.S. appreciates the stability of Algeria, which helps to work together for the stabilization of the region, Desrocher reaffirmed.
Highlighting Algeria’s contribution to the resolution of the Libyan conflict, the American diplomat also made a point of stressing that Algiers and Washington were making efforts to bring together the Libyans for an inclusive solution, which is likely to preserve Libya’s unity, its territorial integrity and the cohesion of its people.
Desrocher also cited, during the meeting, the huge potential of the Algerian economy, which enables it to rapidly shift towards diversified economy. According to him, the U.S. American operators could contribute to this effort if Algeria continues improving its business climate.
The Algerian delegation meeting with Desrocher allowed broaching the political reforms conducted in Algeria, culminated in the Revision of the Constitution, which consolidated the Rule of Law and the protection of liberties.
The discussions also focused on the important role of the High-level Independent Authority for Election Monitoring in guaranteeing the democratic process.
The Algerian parliamentary delegation which took part on Thursday in the National Prayer Breakfast organized by the U.S. Congress also met with congressmen with whom they exchanged views on the prospects for developing bilateral relations.
