UN-GGIM Arab States committee meets in Algiers

ALGIERS – The Ministry of National Defence (MDN) will hold on Monday and Tuesday in Algiers the 7th meeting of the United Nations Global Geospatial Information Management for the Arab States, said the ministry in a communiqué.
“In view of the international UN initiative for Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM) and within regional projections of this initiative, on both Arab and African countries, the ministry of national defense, through the National States Geographic Information Council, organized with partnership with the United Nations Statistics Division on February 17 to 19, 2020 at the National Army Circle in Beni Messous in Algiers, the seventh meeting of the Group of Experts from Arab Countries for the Global Management of Geospatial Information,” the communiqué said.
“The proceedings of this event were opened by Major General, Head of the Army Staff’s Employment-Preparation Department, in the presence of senior officials from the Ministry of National Defence and representatives of “other ministerial departments with a territorial vocation, as well as the main creators of geospatial information in our country,” added the Ministry communiqué .
“This meeting is hosted by national and foreign experts, with the aim of monitoring the progress of the Group of Experts’ works for the Arab countries and discussing the action plans for the next steps to make this UN initiative a reality,” said the same source.
“On February 15 and 16, 2020, the international technical workshop on the Integrated Geospatial Information Framework (IGIF) was organized. The workshop addressed the questions related to the operational approach to establish the framework for the integration of Geospatial Information at State level, in order to strengthen the overall management of geospatial information, as a determining tool in decision-making, in terms of managing territories and others challenges related to socio-economic development,” concluded the communiqué.
