APS : SUNDAY 12 NOVEMBER 2017
ALGIERS- The third session of the Algerian-French Strategic Dialogue has got underway Sunday in Algiers under the co-chairmanship of Foreign Minister Abdelkader Messahel and his French counterpart Jean-Yves Le Drian.
The works of the session, held behind closed doors, follow the fourth session of the Algerian-French Joint Economic Committee (COMEFA), which took place in the morning.
The strategic dialogue, established between the two countries, is an informal framework that allows the two sides to strengthen their analyses and exchange of information on security issues, especially the growing terror threat.
Representatives of institutions of the two countries in charge of fight against terrorism and organized crime are participating in the meeting, which aims at assessing the existing consultation mechanisms and examining security cooperation and means to strengthen their capacities to jointly address the various security threats.
In his address at the end of the fourth session of COMEFA, Messahel said that the third session of Strategic Dialogue would be an opportunity for “deep consultation” on some regional and international issues of common interest, especially in the Maghreb, Sahel and Mediterranean regions.
It would also allow the two sides to examine issues related to fight against terrorism and violent extremism in all its forms and dimensions, including its financing and its connections with transnational organized crime, prevention and deradicalization as well as illegal migration.
