Press statement over US State Department statement on religious freedom in Algeria
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ahmed Attaf, expressed his deep regret over the erroneous and inaccurate information about Algeria in the latest statement by the US Department of State on the freedom of religion.
In a phone conversation with his American counterpart, Antony Blinken, Attaf underlined that the statement overlooked the efforts made by Algeria to enshrine the principle of the freedom of religion and religious practice, a principle that is unequivocally and clearly guaranteed by the Algerian Constitution.
The minister also underlined the dialogue initiated by our country with the United States in this regard, and its expression, several times, of its willingness to receive the American ambassador at-large for international religious freedom, to shed light on the facts, and on Algeria’s effective commitment to preserving the principle of religious freedom in accordance with its relevant international obligations.
