PAP Vice-President emphasizes Algeria's strong support for Africa
APS : Saturday, 27 October 2018
ALGIERS-Vice-President of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP), Djamel Bouras on emphasized Saturday in Kigali (Rwanda) Algeria’s strong support for the African continent,
as evidenced by the initiative of President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika to cancel the debt of 14 African countries worth US$53 billion, said the People’s National Assembly (Lower House) in a communiqué.
Speaking at meeting held by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) under the theme “Migration and labour in Africa,” the PAP Vice-President and Lower House MP Djamel Bouras highlighted “the strong support provided by Algeria to Africa,” stressing that the country “continues to receive thousands of university students in all fields in the light of its key role in the creation of the NEPAD initiative.”
“Northern African countries, notably Algeria and Libya, are victims of illegal migration and pay the price. Meanwhile, European countries are the sole beneficiaries of support from the United Nations to address this scourge,” said Bouras.
“The IOM does not refer in any way the trained and qualified human resource that contributes to the economic and social edification of Europe,” he continued.
Defending Libya which is heavily criticized for mistreating migrants, Bouras stressed that this “country, which currently experiences a difficult situation, played a key role in edification of the African Union (AU) and provided significant financial aid to several countries.”
The MP also urged African countries to “support and adopt the Algerian position in favour of peace, security and cohesion of the Libyan people, far from any foreign interference in international affairs, so that Libya regains its rightful place in Africa.”
Bouras and PAP President agreed to schedule a special meeting between the Libyan delegation and PAP in order to consider sending a parliamentary mission to Libya that will draft an exhaustive report on the situation in this country.
Another meeting is planned between the Sahrawi delegation and the PAP office to express their concerns.
