NIAMEY-Speaker of the People’s National Assembly (Lower House) Mohamed Larbi Ould Khelifa has been received Friday in Niamey by Niger’s re-elected President Mahamadou Issoufou
to whom he handed a message from President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of Ould Khelifa’s visit to Niamey as personal representative of President of the Republic at the inauguration ceremony of Niger’s President Issoufou, re-elected for a second term.
The meeting focused on bilateral relations based on friendship, brotherhood, cooperation and good neighbouring, as well as means to further develop them.
As for the situation in the Sahel region, Niger’s president hailed “Algeria’s key role in counterterrorism and restoration of security and stability.”
He paid homage to Algeria’s efforts for the restoration of stability in Mali as leader of international mediation that culminated in the signing of the Peace and Reconciliation Agreement, as well as efforts it spends part of the presidency of the International committee in charge of monitoring the agreement.
Both parties stressed the need for joint efforts from country of the region to find a solution to the Libyan crisis without foreign interference.
Niger’s president also hailed Algeria’s role in the search of a solution to this crisis that have an impact on all countries of the region.
For his part, Ould Khelifa reaffirmed that Algeria was ready to provide necessary support the State of Niger, adding that the meeting of the joint bilateral committee will be an opportunity to assess and promote cooperation between the two countries in several fields.
Besides, Ould Khelifa met with Speaker of Niger’s National Assembly Ousseini Tinni and his three vice-presidents.
The meeting focused on “strong” bilateral relations and means to reinforce relations between the two countries’ parliaments.
