As part of his visit as Special Envoy of the President of the Republic, Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ahmed Attaf, was received in Nouakchott on Friday morning by President of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, a brotherly country, Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, to whom he delivered a written message from his brother the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune.

In a statement after the meeting, Attaf said that his visit to Mauritania, a brotherly country, is part of the shared determination of the leaders of the two countries to strengthen Algerian-Mauritanian relations and promote them to the highest levels, in addition to their constant concern to contribute to everything that can strengthen security and stability in the region and in the neighbourhood.

In this regard, Attaf said that bilateral relations are currently at their peak, not only historically, but also in terms of development and dynamism, particularly in the context of the complementary and integrated projects agreed between President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and his brother, President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani.

Among these projects, the minister mentioned the strategic project to create the Tindouf-Zouérate land route, as well as other projects such as the completion of the two border crossings, the launch of the first Algerian bank and the 1st permanent fair for Algerian products in this sister country, in addition to projects strengthening the humanitarian and social dimensions of Algerian-Mauritanian relations.

As for the current situation on the regional and international scenes, Minister Ahmed Attaf said that Algeria and Mauritania share a deep concern for the tensions surrounding them in an unstable regional environment, in addition to the serious developments in the Palestinian cause.

In this regard, and on the basis of the principled positions and coherent orientations that unite the two countries, both of which are stable and secure homelands in a region currently suffering from instability and insecurity, the Minister said that Algeria and Mauritania will work to strengthen their joint efforts, with a view to having a positive impact on the course of events, in the best interests of the countries and peoples in their neighbourhood.

Lastly, Attaf reiterated his thanks and consideration to His Excellency President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani for the welcome extended to him and for the message of fraternity and esteem to be conveyed to President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
