ALGIERS- Minister of Maghreb Affairs, African Union and Arab League Abdelkader Messahel will pay a visit to Tripoli to reiterate Algeria’s support to the efforts for the restoration on peace, security and stability in Libya,
said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a communiqué.
The visit will be an opportunity to “assess the situation in Libya and in the region in the light of the recent major developments in the country and to examine the prospects for strengthening cooperation in various areas,” said the communiqué.
Messahel will also “reiterate Algeria’s support to the efforts of the Libyan authorities for the restoration of peace, security and stability in Libya.”
“Algeria, which has, since the beginning of the crisis in Libya, fully supported the UN-led process for the search of a political solution, has strongly called for the preservation of the sovereignty of the sister country, its territorial integrity and the unity of its people.”
Algeria has encouraged all Libyans to engage in a frank and inclusive dialogue, and has supported the formation of a national consensus government in Libya’s capital, Tripoli, to address the institutional, security and economic challenges, as well as the fight against terrorism, which require cooperation of all its international and regional partners,” said the communiqué.
“In this crucial and decisive stage, which this sister and neighbouring country is going through, Algeria reiterates its commitment to assist the Libyan authorities and urges all Libyans to favour dialogue, consultation and national reconciliation, and put the supreme interest of their country above all differences in order to end the suffering and the difficulties witnessed by the brotherly people of Libya,” added the Ministry’s communiqué.
