Messahel holds talks with Nigerian counterpart

ALGIERS-Foreign Minister Abdelkader Messahel held talks Tuesday in New York with his Nigerian counterpart Geoffrey Onyeama, on the sidelines of the 72th United Nations General Assembly,
the Ministry announced in a communiqué.
The talks focused on relations between both countries and the prospects of their consolidation in various fields.
Both officials also discussed various African issues on the agenda of the African Union and “reaffirmed their commitment to continuously strengthening AU’s role on the international scene.”
Moreover, they focused on the importance of compliance with texts and rules governing the AU.
Besides, Messahel and Onyeama “exchanged views on other important issues, particularly peace and security in Africa, including the situation in Western Sahara, the fight against terrorism and violent extremism, the African Union reform and African development mechanisms, like NEPAD and APRM,” said the source.
Regarding counterterrorism, the Nigerian FM expressed “his country’s hope to take advantage of Algeria’s experience in this field.”
