ALGIERS- As part of his tour to the capitals of several countries in the Sahel, Minister of Foreign affairs Abdelkader Messahel was received Friday, in Amdjarass in Chad,
by Chadian President Idris Deby Itno to whom he handed over “a message of fraternity and consideration” from President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika, said a communiqué of Foreign Affairs Ministry.
The message is also about “the strengthening of the cooperation and coordination between the two countries on issues of common interest,” said the source.
President Deby “welcomed the quality of the bilateral relations and the momentum that marked them since his State visit to Algeria, in December 2014, and which was a strong moment in the relations between Algeria and Chad.”
In this regard, he reiterated “his country’s commitment to continuing consultations with Algeria to further strengthen the bilateral cooperation and increase trading between the two countries.”
Chadian President broached the situation in the region, putting a particular emphasis on “the threats and challenges, notably terrorism, organized crime and illegal immigration.”
In this regard, he stressed “the importance for the countries of the region to maintain a high degree of coordination and consultations to stamp out these threats which are still hindering the efforts of development in the countries of the region.”
President Deby also broached the situations of conflicts in the region, notably Mali and Libya.
For his part, Messahel welcomed the implementation of the decisions taken by the two Heads of State Abdelaziz Bouteflika and Idriss Deby Itno, during his last visit to Algeria, as well as those of the last session of the Joint Committee held in 2014.
In this regard, he renewed “Algeria’s commitment to developing the relations with Chad.” The message conveyed by Messahel also focused on the situation in the region. The minister said that the “difficult context in the region because of terrorism and its dangerous links with the organized crime, requires strong consultations between the two countries on regional security issues.”
The two sides also “exchanged views on issues on the agenda of the African Union and totally agreed on the need to maintain cohesion and unity of the ranks to take up the challenges facing the African continent,” according to the communiqué.
Chadian President “sent his fraternal salutations and feelings of esteem and consideration to President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika.”
