ALGIERS-Algeria “vigorously” condemned terrorist attacks Friday against a camp of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) in Kidal and the ambush against Malian soldiers in the Timbuktu region.
“We strongly condemn the terrorist attacks that targeted respectively a camp of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) in Kidal (Mali) and Malian soldiers in the Timbuktu region,” spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Abdelaziz Benali Cherif stressed in a communiqué.
Benali Cherif reaffirmed the Algeria’s “support” to the “Malian brotherly people and government”, and “solidarity” with the MINUSMA and the families of those peacekeepers and Malian soldiers victims of “these abject terrorist attacks.”
These “terrorist attacks” against the Malian army, the Minusma and other actors involved in the peace process in Mali is “a vain and desperate escalation that cannot undermine the resolute efforts of all components of the Malian people to reach peace, stability and national reconciliation, ” Benali Cherif affirmed.
At least five peacekeepers have been killed and 30 others wounded in a terrorist attack Friday in Kidal, in northern Mali. Moreover, armed individuals have killed three Malian soldiers in an ambush.
