APS : WEDNESDAY 20 SEPTEMBER 2017
NEW YORK- Malian President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita underlined, Tuesday evening in New York, Algeria’s role in the achievement of the peace and reconciliation agreement in Mali.
“Once again, I would like to say how much we appreciate the efforts of our Algerian brothers, particularly President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, and we thank them for the hospitality that we received in the wonderful white city (Algiers), where the peace and reconciliation agreement was concluded,” said the Malian president in his address at the United Nations General Assembly.
“Mali is pleased with the conditions created for its future,” said Keita, adding that the general situation in the country “has improved significantly” with the implementation of the agreement, concluded after eight long months of steadfast negotiations.
The Malian president also welcomed the renewal of the mandate of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA), as well as the resolution 2374, setting up the legal framework for the sanctions regime against those responsible for actions that obstruct the implementation of the peace agreement.
He added that the worsening security situation in Mali and Sahel has had an adverse impact on the implementation of the agreement for peace and reconciliation in Mali.
“Insecurity in Mali is also a source of great concern for my country and for our neighbours,” he said, adding “the situation is a real threat for international peace and security.”
